National Conference on Physics for 21st Century held at Khulna University
A national conference on 'Physics for the 21st Century' was held at Khulna University (K U) under the theme 'Physics for Future Development'. More than two hundred teachers, researchers and students from different universities, educational and research institutions of the country participated in the conference organized by the Physics discipline of the university. 55 oral presentations and 29 poster presentations were made in the conference in five parallel sessions.
Before this, Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission Chief Scientific Officer Dr. Syed Mohammad Hossain spoke as the keynote speaker at the event. The conference took place at the Lecture Theater of URP Discipline in ‘Dr. Satyendranath Bose Academic Building’. Conference Organizing Committee Convener and Physics Discipline Head Professor Dr. Md. Harunor Rashid Khan presided over the session.
The member-secretary of the conference organizing committee and associate professor of related disciplines Dr. Md. Salahuddin Mina delivered his welcome speech. Ridwan Al Jawad, Anvesha Chakraborty and Nafia Wahid Nirjhar, students of the respective disciplines conducted the program.
While speaking as the Chief Patron at the inaugural session, Khulna University (KU) Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Mahmud Hossain said, Physics is the basic science. When it comes to the advancement of physics, there is no substitute for physics that arose from the scientific revolution of the seventeenth century, followed by the nineteenth century, the twentieth century, and where we are today in the twenty-first century.
Modern civilization, networking communications, the fourth industrial revolution—everything is accompanied by physics. If this progress continues, the better world we are dreaming of will be fulfilled soon.
The Vice-Chancellor also said that students and young researchers will present their research articles from this national conference organized by Physics discipline of Khulna University. They will take the country forward with their researched knowledge and play an important role in building the Smart Bangladesh announced by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Besides, it will come up at what stage physics research is in Bangladesh and what Bangladesh has to offer to the world. He expressed the hope that physics will advance with the mutual cooperation of the participants in this conference and that the physics discipline will take the initiative to organize international conferences in the future based on the experience of today's national conference.
He expressed sincere thanks to all the organizing committee including the Head of Physics Discipline for organizing this national conference in a timely manner.
In the opening ceremony, the Pro Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Dr. Mosammat Hosne Ara and Dean of Science, Engineering and Technology School Prof. Dr. Kamrul Hasan Talukder spoke as patrons.
